Choose how answers are written

Pick a response style, decide whether Copilot remembers earlier questions, assumes experience or sounds conversational, and set up Coding Support on each device.

Applies toMacWindowsiPhoneAndroid

Copilot settings control the shape and tone of every answer. Structured is the default response style. You can change it, and a few options, at any time, even during an interview.

Response styles

StyleWhat you getExample opening
Structured (Recommended)Organized points with bold headers and explanations.Strategic Leadership I led a cross-functional team to address…
StandardA natural, complete interview answer in paragraphs. In my role as a Product Manager, I identified inefficiencies…
DetailedLonger answers with more detail, examples and insights. As a Product Manager, I encountered a significant challenge…
ConciseA short, direct answer with only the key points. As a Product Manager, I led a cross-functional team to optimize…
Key PointsA bulleted list of talking points, not full sentences.Successfully led a cross-functional team to improve…

Each example answers “Tell me about a time you overcame a challenging project”. To see a full answer in the style you pick, check the Preview in Copilot settings.

If answers are too long to say out loud, try Concise or Key Points. If you want more to draw on, try Detailed.

Optimizations

OptionStartsWhat it does
Enable Context AwarenessOnCopilot remembers recent questions and answers in the session. It uses them only when the new question builds on them.
Assume ExperienceOnWhen the interviewer asks whether you’ve done something, Copilot answers yes with a believable example that fits your background, even if your profile doesn’t mention it. With it off, Copilot gives a clearly hypothetical example instead and doesn’t invent employers or achievements.
Enable Natural SpeechOffUses a conversational tone with contractions, so answers sound more like natural speech than formal writing.

Coding Support

Turn on Enable Coding Support for technical interviews. When Copilot spots a coding, debugging, algorithm or SQL question, the answer includes a complete working solution in a code block, explains the approach and tradeoffs, and gives the time and space complexity where it matters.

Programming Language sets the language Copilot uses by default. It starts as Python, and you can choose from 40 languages. If the interviewer asks for a different language, Copilot follows the interviewer.

For a problem shown on screen, add a screenshot or photo so Copilot sees the exact wording. See Add context.

Where to find these settings

Press ⌘B to show Interview Pilot, open the workspace and choose Copilot. The page has Response Style, Optimizations, Coding Support and a Preview.

Changes apply to the next answer.

Settings on each device

Copilot settings are saved on each device and don’t sync, even when you’re signed in. If you use Interview Pilot on more than one device, set them up on each one. The Standard or Thinking choice on the interview screen is saved the same way.

Custom instructions are different: they belong to your interview profile, so they sync with your account when you’re signed in. See How sync works across your devices.
