Install Interview Pilot on Mac
Download the app, move it to Applications, sign in and allow the two permissions it needs to hear your interviews.
Before you start
You need a Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later. To hear the interviewer straight from your Mac’s audio, Interview Pilot needs macOS 14.4 or later. On macOS 14.0 to 14.3 it can only listen through your microphone. Here’s what that means for your setup.
To check your version, choose Apple menu › About This Mac.
You’ll also need an Interview Pilot account. If you don’t have one yet, you can create it when you sign in.
Install the app
Download Interview Pilot
Go to the Downloads page and click Download for macOS. Your browser saves Interview Pilot.dmg, usually in your Downloads folder.
In Safari, the download appears in the downloads list at the top right of the window. Drag the app to Applications
Double-click Interview Pilot.dmg. In the window that opens, drag Interview Pilot onto the Applications folder.
Dragging the app into Applications installs it. You can then eject the Interview Pilot disk in Finder. Open Interview Pilot with Spotlight
Press ⌘Space to open Spotlight, type Interview Pilot and press Return. The first time you open it, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Choose Open.
Interview Pilot doesn’t appear in the Dock, so Spotlight is the quickest way to open it.
Click Sign In
On Welcome to Interview Pilot, click Sign In. Your web browser opens the Interview Pilot sign-in page.
Sign-in happens in your browser, so you can use your email and password, Apple or Google. Sign in in your browser
Sign in, or create an account if you don’t have one. If your browser asks whether to open Interview Pilot, allow it.
Go back to the app
While you sign in, the app shows Finish signing in and updates on its own when you’re done. If you closed the browser tab before finishing, click Open Browser to pick up where you left off.
Finish setup
After you sign in, a short setup walks you through the app:
- Welcome to Interview Pilot: choose the language your interviews are in.
- Open workspace: click the workspace button. The workspace is where you set up interview profiles, customize Copilot and change settings.
- Enable permissions: allow the microphone and system audio, as described below.
- You’re all set!: choose Guided profile setup to create your first interview profile now, or Finish to do it later.
If you’d rather explore on your own, click Skip setup. You can finish it later from the workspace.
Allow the permissions
Interview Pilot asks for two permissions on the Enable permissions step. Click Allow next to each one.
| Permission | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Hearing you. |
| Screen & System Audio | Hearing the interviewer through your Mac’s audio, and taking screenshots when you add screen context. |
For Screen & System Audio, macOS may open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording. Turn on Interview Pilot there, then come back to the app. On macOS Sonoma, this setting is called Screen Recording.
On macOS 14.0 to 14.3, Interview Pilot only asks for the microphone.
You can check both permissions at any time in the workspace under Settings › Permissions.
Check for updates
To make sure you have the latest version, open the workspace, go to Settings › About and click Check for Updates.
