Attach documents to a profile
Add personal and job documents to an interview profile, see which files work and what Copilot reads from them, and remove documents you no longer need.
Attach documents to an interview profile when they hold useful detail that doesn’t fit in the fields, such as a cover letter or notes about the team. Copilot reads the text in each document and uses it when it helps answer a question.
Personal and job documents
Each document is either a personal document or a job document.
| Type | What it’s for | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | You and your background | Cover letter, project write-ups, a longer version of your resume |
| Job | The role and the company | A page about the team, company research, notes from the recruiter |
You don’t need to attach what’s already in the profile’s fields. To fill in the fields from a resume or job posting, use Upload a file instead. See Import from a resume or job posting.

Files you can attach
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Documents per profile | In the apps, up to 2 personal and 2 job documents. When a type is full, remove one before adding another. |
| File types | PDF, Word (.docx), RTF, plain text (.txt) and Markdown (.md). On the web: PDF, Word (.docx), plain text and Markdown. |
| File size | Up to 10 MB. |
| Text length | Up to 50,000 characters of text in the file. |
Interview Pilot reads the text in a file and can’t read text in images. If you attach a scanned PDF in the apps, it’s added, but its text only says No text could be extracted from this PDF. The document may be scanned or contain only images. On the web, the upload fails with The document could not be uploaded. Export the file again from the app you wrote it in, or paste the text into a field.
If a file won’t attach in the apps, you see the same messages as when an import fails. See what each one means in Import from a resume or job posting.
What Copilot reads
Copilot reads the text that Interview Pilot took from the file, not its layout, images or formatting. During an interview, it uses the documents of the profile selected for interviews, and only when they help answer the question.
To check what Copilot gets, click or tap the open button next to the document in the Mac, Windows, iPhone or Android app. You see the text that was read from the file.
Documents on your other devices
When you’re signed in, attached documents are saved to your account with the profile and appear on your other devices.
- iPhone and Android save only the text read from the file.
- Mac, Windows and the web also save the original file. On the web, the download button next to a document gets the original file. It only appears for files added on a computer or the web.
On iPhone and Android you can attach documents without an account. They stay on that phone until you sign in. See How sync works across your devices.
Remove a document
On the Documents (Optional) tab, click the delete button next to the document, then Delete. Click Save profile to keep the change.

On the Documents (Optional) tab, click the remove button next to the document. It’s removed straight away, without a confirmation, and you see Document removed from this profile.
A removed document is deleted for good and doesn’t go to Recently Deleted. In the apps, Clear All on the personal or job details also removes that type of document. Deleting a profile removes all its documents, and duplicating a profile doesn’t copy them.
