The transcript is in the wrong language

Set the interview language Interview Pilot listens for, choose between Auto-detect and one language, and fix the language on iPhone after a switch to Default transcription.

Applies toMacWindowsiPhoneAndroid

The transcript follows your interview language setting, which is separate from the language of the app’s menus. Set it to the language your interview is in, or to Auto-detect.

1. Check your interview language

Press ⌘B to show Interview Pilot, open the workspace and go to Settings › Interview. Choose a language from Language.

The setting is saved on each device, so check it on every device you use. If you change it during a session, stop listening and start again so the new language is used.

2. Choose Auto-detect or one language

  • One language: choose it when the whole interview is in that language. Interview Pilot then listens for that language.
  • Auto-detect: Interview Pilot works out the language from what it hears.

If you chose one language and the interview is in another, the transcript may come out wrong or garbled. Switch to the right language or to Auto-detect.

3. Interviews in more than one language

If the interviewer may switch languages, or asks some questions in one language and some in another, choose Auto-detect.

4. On iPhone, check the transcription system

The iPhone app has two transcription systems, and each keeps its own language:

  • Copilot Premium+ offers Auto-detect and a long list of languages.
  • Default uses your iPhone’s speech recognition. It offers the languages your iPhone supports and no Auto-detect.

When your premium transcription minutes for the week run out, Interview Pilot switches to Default on its own and switches back after your minutes reset. If the transcript changed language suddenly, open Transcription & Language and check the language shown for Default. See Weekly limits and when they reset.

If you see Speech recognition not available, Default can’t use the chosen language right now. Choose another language or switch to Copilot Premium+.

Still in the wrong language?

Make sure you changed the interview language, not the app language. They’re different settings, explained in Interview language and app language. Then start listening again and test with a short clip of speech in your interview’s language.
