AI mock interview problems
Fix a mock interview that won’t start, can’t hear you or doesn’t produce an evaluation, on iPhone, Android and the web, and see what each message means.
An AI mock interview needs your microphone, an internet connection and, on the web, Pro. Most problems come from one of these, or from ending before you’ve answered.
1. Check that you can start
Mock interviews work on Free and Pro. On Free, each one uses one of your weekly Copilot answers. If you’re out of answers, tapping Start opens the upgrade screen instead. See how many you have left in the Profile tab under Usage.

Mock interviews on the web need an Interview Pilot account with Pro.
- Sign in to start a mock interview. means you’re signed out. Sign in at platform.interviewpilot.app.
- Platform access is required for real-time mock interviews. means your account doesn’t have Pro. Click Upgrade, or see Free and Pro.
2. Allow the microphone
The mock interview hears your answer through the microphone, so it needs microphone access. The camera is only for your own preview and isn’t needed.
Allow the microphone when your iPhone asks. If you turned it off earlier, open your iPhone’s Settings, find Interview Pilot and turn on Microphone, then start the mock interview again.
When you open the mock interview room, Android asks for the camera and microphone. Tapping Start asks for the microphone again if it’s missing.
If the preview shows Camera and microphone access are required for realtime practice., tap Enable Access to allow the camera. To practice without the camera, tap Stop Video instead. You can still start with only the microphone allowed.
If Android no longer asks, allow the microphone for Interview Pilot in your phone’s Settings, usually under Apps, then Permissions.
Your browser asks to use the camera when the room opens, and the microphone when you click Start Question. Allow the microphone. If you blocked the camera, the preview shows Camera access needed, and you can carry on without it.
If you blocked the microphone, an error appears and the mock interview doesn’t start. Allow the microphone for platform.interviewpilot.app in your browser’s site settings, often from the icon next to the address, then reload the page.
3. Wait for the interviewer to finish
The mock interview doesn’t listen to you while the interviewer is speaking. Wait until the question ends, then answer.
- iPhone and Android: the Mute control only shows status, and you can’t tap it. It shows Mute while the mock interview can hear you, and a red Unmute while it can’t, such as while the interviewer talks.
- Web: the microphone button mutes and unmutes you. If you muted yourself, click it again to unmute.
4. Answer before you end
If you end before the mock interview has heard you, there’s nothing to evaluate:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Answer the question before ending the session. | Start again, say your answer out loud, then end. |
| No candidate audio was recorded. Please try again. (iPhone, Android) | Your answer wasn’t recorded. See checks 2 and 3, then start again. |
5. If the evaluation or connection fails
These messages appear in Realtime Practice on iPhone and Android, and on the mock interview page on the web. The attempt isn’t saved, so start the mock interview again.
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Could not evaluate your answer. Please try again. (iPhone), Realtime practice evaluation failed. Please try again. (Android) or Realtime practice evaluation failed (web) | Interview Pilot couldn’t score your answer. Check your connection and try again. |
| Audio setup failed. Please try again. (iPhone) | The mock interview couldn’t use your phone’s audio. Close other apps that use the microphone, tap Leave and start again. |
| Realtime practice encountered an error. Please try again. (iPhone) | Something went wrong during the mock interview. Tap Leave and start again. |
| Realtime practice connection failed. Please try again. or Realtime practice error (Android) | The connection dropped. Check your connection, then tap Try Again. |
| Could not submit your answer. Please try again. | Ending your turn didn’t go through. Check your connection and try again. |
| Too many requests. Please try again later. (web) | You started or ended a lot of mock interviews in a short time. Wait a while, then try again. |
A mock interview also ends on its own when the interviewer wraps up, or after 3 minutes, and goes straight to the evaluation.
