Interview Pilot keeps connecting or loses its connection
What happens when the connection drops during an interview, how Interview Pilot reconnects on its own, and what to check when it can’t.
Interview Pilot needs an internet connection to transcribe and to write answers. If the connection drops while it’s listening, it tries to reconnect on its own, up to 3 times.
1. Give it a moment to reconnect
While Interview Pilot reconnects, it isn’t listening, so words spoken during that time may be missing from the transcript. If a question was cut off, type the missing part in Add extra context... before you ask for the answer.
The main button shows Connecting... while Interview Pilot reconnects. If it can’t reconnect, it stops listening. Click Start to try again.
The main button shows Connecting... while Interview Pilot reconnects. If it can’t reconnect, it stops listening and the answer panel shows a message such as Realtime transcription failed. Click Start to try again.
The main button shows Connecting... while Interview Pilot reconnects. If new words stop appearing afterward, tap Clear to start listening again, or tap Stop and then Start Recording. Clear removes the transcript of the current question.
If Interview Pilot can’t reconnect, you see Something went wrong with Connection failed. Please try again. Tap OK, then tap Retry Recording.
2. Check your internet connection
- Open a website on the same device to make sure you’re online.
- On Wi‑Fi, move closer to the router or switch to another network.
- On a phone, try switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
If your video call is also freezing, the problem is likely your network rather than Interview Pilot.
3. Check VPNs, proxies and firewalls
A VPN, proxy or firewall, including those on many work and school networks, can block or interrupt the live connection Interview Pilot uses for transcription. If the connection keeps dropping, turn off your VPN or try another network, such as your phone’s hotspot, and start again.
4. Check System Status
If your connection is fine, Interview Pilot itself may be having a problem. System Status shows how the service is doing now and over recent days.
| Device | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Mac and Windows | In the workspace, click System Status in the sidebar |
| iPhone and Android | Open the Profile tab and tap System Status |
| Any browser | platform.interviewpilot.app/system-status |
If it shows an outage, wait for it to clear before you try again.
5. If you see a message
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Connecting... doesn’t go away | Check your connection, then stop and start listening again. |
| Realtime transcription failed. (Windows) | Check your connection, then click Start. |
| Transcription is currently unavailable. (Windows) | Your premium transcription minutes for the week may have run out. See Weekly limits and when they reset, and check System Status. |
| Connection failed. Please try again. (Android) | Check your connection, then tap Retry Recording. |
| Your session has expired. Please sign in again. (Mac, Windows) | Click Sign In and finish signing in in your browser. |
Still losing the connection?
Quit and reopen Interview Pilot, then test on a different network. If it still drops while other apps stay online, contact us with your device, your network type, whether you use a VPN and the message you see.
