A concise interview statistics ledger separates formats, timing, AI, communication, and funnel measures by source.

Current job interview statistics on formats, AI, hiring timelines, candidate communication, and conversion, with every claim tied to its source population.

Format and structure

Survale’s 2025 Candidate Experience research included more than 66,000 candidate surveys from 110 participating organizations worldwide. It reported an even split in its sample: 44% interviewed live virtually and 44% interviewed in person.

The same Survale benchmark reported that 65% of participating North American employers used structured interviews. These are participant-population results, not estimates for all employers.

AI interview exposure and disclosure

Greenhouse surveyed 2,950 job seekers across five markets in 2026. Among U.S. respondents, 63% said they had experienced an AI interview. Among U.S. candidates who experienced AI evaluation, 70% said it was not clearly disclosed before their most recent AI interview.

The Greenhouse report is candidate-reported vendor research. It supports concern about transparency in its surveyed population, not a census of AI use by employers.

Hiring timeline

SHRM’s 2025 benchmark, based on responses from more than 2,300 members, reported median time-to-fill of about 45 calendar days for executive and nonexecutive roles. Time-to-fill begins when a requisition opens and ends when an offer is accepted.

That SHRM measure is not the same as the time from one candidate’s application to decision. Candidates should use the employer’s stated timeline and the follow-up guide.

Hiring-funnel conversion

CareerPlug’s 2025 report analyzed 2024 activity from more than 60,000 small-business owners and over 10 million applications. Participating employers invited 3% of applicants to interview and converted 27% of interviews to hires on average.

The CareerPlug data varied by industry and reflects its customer dataset. The 27% measure is interview-to-hire, not interview-to-offer or one candidate’s chance after a single conversation.

What candidates should take from the numbers

Prepare for both virtual and in-person delivery with the video interview guide. Ask how evaluation is structured and whether AI is involved. At a late stage, use the final-interview guide to prepare for unresolved decision risks.

Statistics can calibrate expectations, but they cannot predict one outcome without role, market, employer, and candidate context. The most useful personal dataset is a consistently tracked funnel with qualitative notes.
