A team coordinates tasks through clear handoffs and shared evidence.

Choose an example where people depended on one another, not merely worked near one another. Explain the shared goal, your responsibility, the handoffs, and how the team handled changing information.

NACE's teamwork competency includes listening, accountability, conflict management, collaboration, and using individual strengths.

Choose a genuinely interdependent example

A good example has distinct contributions and a shared outcome. State what others owned and where coordination mattered. Do not turn teamwork into a story about rescuing incompetent colleagues.

Teamwork answer example

Our event team had one week to move an in-person workshop online. I owned registration and participant communication, while two teammates rebuilt delivery and technical support. I created a shared readiness checklist with handoff times, then sent only confirmed platform instructions. When the rehearsal exposed an access problem, I paused the reminder email until support verified the fix. Attendance was 84 of 96 registrants, and the team reused the checklist for the next workshop.

The attendance figure describes the event; it does not prove one person's email caused it.

Keep individual and team evidence separate

Use “I” for your actions and “we” for collective decisions and results. Prepare follow-ups about disagreement, missed handoffs, and what you would change.

For difficult dynamics, use the difficult teammate guide. If you led the coordination, the team leadership guide helps you explain direction without taking all credit.

Prepare one example where you supported someone else's idea rather than leading. Explain what they owned, what you contributed, and how you handled the handoff. This prevents every teamwork answer from sounding like a disguised leadership story and shows that you can help a team succeed without controlling it.
